Well in my usual fashion on the anniversary I'll do my predictions for what the line up will be that returns me to the official Oscar nominees.
This ought to be the lineup in lead if the Academy decides to be predictable, and this year predictability seems to be a good thing.
Of course Sag could line up, but hopefully it will not. Hopefully Whitaker will go the way of DiCaprio in J. Edgar.
Or if Wolf makes a major play.
Or if the Academy loves American Hustle as much as they did Silver Linings Playbook.
Obviously the Academy could always throw two of the seemingly secured for two others, although I would never bet on that. They could also take in someone like Oscar Isaac or Joaquin Phoenix, but I would not bet on that either.
Supporting seems like it could be two players for the last spot. If the Academy goes for American Hustle Cooper probably will be it.
Then again Gandolfini could carry his Sag nomination to a posthumous Oscar nomination.
Of course someone could always pull a Max von Sydow, perhaps Tom Hanks or Jonah Hill, and knock out both of the variations or someone else. That someone would probably be Bruhl or Abdi. Leto seems extremely secure and Fassbender has the necessary precursors and I would be very surprised if he missed out at BAFTA. Again I would not bet on Bruhl and Abdi missing as they are both doing very well for themselves.
